There’s no one quite like a BFF… and imagine if that BFF was extremely famous and had fans all over the world. Epic. It’s common for the press and paparazzi to focus on celebrities who are friends with each other, but quite a few celebrities have friends who aren’t in the same industry or at a similar level of fame. They have “normal” friends; whether they be from school, the childhood neighborhood, or beyond, it’s time to bring these friendships to light and see some ultimate best-friend-forever relationships.
Mindy Kaling and Jocelyn Leavitt
Mindy Kaling and her BFF Jocelyn Leavitt met in college. The friends also became roomies in Brooklyn after school. Kaling spoke of this time in life in her book, Is Everyone Having Fun Without Me? (And Other Concerns), saying, “We could afford it, Prospect Park wasn’t too far, and people already assumed we were lesbians, so we fit into the neighborhood right away.”
They are far from their Brooklyn days, as Kaling and Leavitt now hang out at award shows instead.
Taylor Swift and Abigail Anderson
Taylor Swift may have her well-known squad, but there’s another girl in Swift’s life who’s been there since the old days. Abigail Anderson and Swift have been besties since high school. It’s a friendship that has stayed intact even through Swift’s major success in the music industry.
In fact, Anderson has been a part of that fame. As reported by People, Swift’s song “Fifteen,” is actually the story of Swift and Anderson in high school — yep, she’s that Abigail.
The two friends have continued to be there for each other throughout the years. When Swift and her boyfriend at the time, Calvin Harris, broke up, Anderson posted a message for Swift on Instagram. And when Anderson got engaged, her bestie was there for the big celebration. Basically, Swift and Anderson are the ultimate squad.
Rihanna and Melissa Forde
Rihanna and Melissa Forde are the coolest friends around. Not only is their fashion style on point, but they have been friends for over a decade.
As Forde shared in an Instagram post, “Hold onto every genuine person you find in this world… it’s almost a real one Birthday @badgalriri 15 yrs of friendship n counting babe and you know I’m riding faevaaaa!!! Wishing you continued blessings on blessings in everything you do!!! Love you more than I love chocolate and only you know how deep of a love that is.” Now that is true friendship.
Jennifer Lawrence and Laura Simpson
Jennifer Lawrence. She seems like the ultimate BFF, and the lucky person who gets to be a part of that friendship is Laura Simpson. As Simpson shared in a MySpace post in 2014, their first meeting was a fateful event. She posted, “I met her [Lawrence] seven years ago at an event where we both didn’t know a single person. We hit it off over a mutual respect for Chandler Bing, and we’ve been eating pizza together ever since.”
Since then, the friends have gone to many fun events together, with Lawrence even going to Simpson’s wedding in Italy. But the best part of their friend has to be their equal love of Bravo. These friends love their Housewives programming and have even gone on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live together.
Amy Schumer and her high school friends
As for Amy Schumer, it’s not just one friend but a group of ladies she’s remained close with since they were kids. As she described during an interview with Vanity Fair, explaining all of the framed pictures and throw pillows with faces on them, “It’s all my friends from high school — these girls, these monsters… They’re afraid I’m going to forget about them. So, like, they keep buying me things, to remind me of them.”
But Schumer knows how to take care of her friends, too. When she was planning to go to the premiere of the final Hunger Games movie to support Jennifer Lawrence (yes, they’re friends!), Schumer didn’t forget about her high school gal pals. As she described in the VF interview, “I was like, ‘I have to bring all my friends from high school.’ [Lawrence’s people] were like, ‘Are you serious?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, if I go and don’t bring them, it’ll be an issue.'”
Ariana Grande and Alexa Luria
For Ariana Grande, it’s her hometown friends who help her keep a level head in the midst of the Hollywood glamour and fame. In particular, her friend Alexa Luria has been there for Grande through it all.
In an interview with Billboard, the singer opened up about her friendships from back home, saying, “I have a bunch of really dope friends I’ve known since elementary school… They think it’s funny that people want to take pictures with me at Starbucks, because it is — it’s weird. They’re going to keep me healthy and humble. I still feel like Ariana from Boca [Raton] who loves musical theater and dogs. I’m just working now.”
